The Gibson Custom Shop '64 SG is a limited edition guitar that was designed and built by Gibson's Custom Shop. This guitar is part of the Murphy Lab series, which is known for its painstakingly aged and weathered finishes that replicate the look and feel of vintage guitars.
This Custom Shop '64 SG is based on the classic 1964 SG model, which is known for its slim, fast neck and distinctive double-cutaway body shape. The guitar's body is made from mahogany, which accounts for its warm and rich tonal characteristics. The body has a black gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish that has been carefully aged and distressed by hand, giving it an authentic vintage look and feel.
The guitar's neck is also made from mahogany and features a slim taper profile that is reminiscent of the necks found on vintage SGs. The fingerboard is made from Indian rosewood and features 22 medium-jumbo frets and acrylic trapezoid inlays.
The guitar is equipped with a pair of Custom Shop '57 humbucking pickups. The guitar has a 3-way toggle pickup switch and separate volume and tone controls for each pickup, allowing for a wide range of tonal options.
Other features of the guitar include a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with white buttons, and a black 5-ply pickguard. The hardware has a nickel finish, and the control knobs are black top hats with silver inserts.
